Good afternoon I-risers I have been almost so engrossed in the class discussion this morning that I almost forgot that I was supposed to be documenting this awesomeness. I was really amazed how teachers dealt with the thing they didn't know or weren't sure of and those who just came to realize that their personal ideas were not what was actually the truth. Lane suggested to on e such teacher it is not just that what she thought was wrong it may have just been that some piece was missing.
This then had me think if they carried these misconceptions from an elementary level and it was never corrected or detected during the rest of the education is this one of the reason why it is hard for some students to detect their own shortcomings. However I did notice that when they found out what they were lacking they did not move from that point until somehow that got a better if not complete understanding.
Group 5 engaged in a conversation with Michelle from group 3 and she brought in other sciences in the mix to help with a more complete understanding of what had incurred in the movement. However on the first day of class in the afternoon her (Michelle) group had a similiar discussion but they said they could not figure out where some energy fit into the forms. Although they knew they were there they just were not able to find the appropriate place for them. Lane questioned them on this in whch the replied we spoke about it we knew it was there but hmm just where do it go. Ahh there's the rub. He let them to ponder the question. So just a week later she is applying her new knowledge and helping another group with the very same issue her and her group grappled with.
Tasha, I'm so glad that you've found something you're so excited about!
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to point you to this post: http://scherrenergyproject.blogspot.com/2012/06/misconceptions-talk.html, because there's a lot of discussion about what it means for a student or teacher to have -- or not to have -- misconceptions.
