Photon Go On

I was worried that this day wouldn't leave me with anything to think about. That is until photons were brought up. I understand that this material is in general not the best to get the teachers into, but the thought of it tickled me pink. These particles and their characteristics are so complex that even many of us would have to refer to a book to describe them to someone, but what if we let a student work through the process? If they have no prior knowledge I wonder how far they would be able to go and how much they could get right by thinking it through. We've been giving them helicopters so that they can fly around freely in any direction so I just want to experience what will happen we we give them a space ship loaded with enough rocket fuel to get them to Pluto. If they blow-up on ignition then we just scrap the space program again, and if they only make it to the moon before crashing then even that is a big achievement.
