My first blog post, ever. Obviously first for I-RISE classroom E1 as well.
I didn't do one yesterday b/c i was solving technical issues and finishing up my PERC reviews due that day.
Today E1 started energy theater. It was an interesting transition because Lane (one of the co-teachers with Adam) emphasized a lot in the morning about how the teachers could choose what to do next. Then after lots of talk about process vs. content, it seemed he just gave them the NLDS standards and said that is what the standards say. Then there was lots more discussion/negotiation/clarification about that.
They moved on to defining important "instants" in time, as distinct from what was going on in between the "instants", using the meter stick and metal ring sliding across the floor. After each group shared one instant, they drew a picture of their "instant" and then groups arranged their whiteboard pictures in the order they occurred in the physical setup.
Then Lane emphasized that he was now going to be a football coach and just tell them what the next representation would be. This was energy theater. He joked and emphasized the teachers had no choice in it. Adam gave the three (four) rules with lots of clarification back and forth with teachers.
Okay, that's what they were roughly doing. Next blog post will be what they did during energy theater of this meter-stick & metal ring physical scenario.
Thanks for reading this far.
