While looking for something else entirely, I stumbled upon this version of the Swackhamer paper we've been passing around:

It was updated in 2005, 2 years later than the draft we've been reading. I don't have time to look at the changes carefully, but it does look like it's been updated quite a bit, and has a clearer explanation of a lot of the metaphor stuff.
Also, the site where I found this has a whole list of resources for teaching energy, which may or may not be useful to us:
